The “distorted” portrait artist says Trump’s complaints have harmed business for over 41 years

The artist, who painted President Donald Trump’s “deliberately distorted” portrait, said his remarks had hurt her business.

Colorado removed official Trump portraits from an exhibition at the state Capitol building last month after complaining that the president was intentionally seen.

“No one likes bad drawings or paintings of himself, but the paintings at the Capitol in Colorado were intentionally distorted along with all the other presidents,” Trump wrote on his true social platform on March 24.

“The artist has President Obama, and he looks great, but mine is really the worst,” Trump said.

The 78-year-old Republican called for the oil painting to be defeated, saying artist Sara Boardman “must have lost his talent as he ages.”

The Democratic-controlled Colorado Legislature stated the same day Trump complained that the paintings have been removed and stored from Capitol’s Rotunda gallery, which has been suspended since 2019.

Boardman responded to Trump’s critique in a statement on her website, saying that he “completed the work accurately without “purpose distortions,” political bias, or attempts to actually or implicitly portray the subject.”

“President Trump is as free to comment as we all have, but I deliberately distorted the portrait” must have lost talent when I was older,” which has been directly and negatively affected by my business for over 41 years,” the British-born artist said.

The board added in an undated statement that she had “received overwhelmingly positive reviews” of the work she was commissioned during the six years when Trump’s portrait was hanging from the Colorado State Capitol.

But Trump’s comments “changed for the worst,” she said.

In addition to Trump and former President Barack Obama, Boardman was asked to paint a portrait of former President George W. Bush.
