The Genesis Invitational Golf Tournament pays homage to Tiger Woods’ late mother, Kultida Woods


As Tiger Woods Genesis’s invitation organizers continue to lament the loss of her mother, Kurchida Woods, and have revealed plans to honor her.

The par-4 Seventh Hall features a white flag without a logo and words nod to Wood’s late mother and her beliefs.

According to a social media post from PGA TourKurchida Woods practiced Buddhism. The colors white and 7 are highly regarded by Buddhists.

White is thought to represent enlightenment, knowledge and purity. Kurchida, whose name is often shortened to Tida, was born in Thailand. Her home country’s flag features white stripes, which are believed to symbolize Buddhist beliefs.

“It’s a heartfelt sadness to share that my beloved mother, Kurchida Woods, passed away early this morning,” he said. “My mother was the power of all nature of her own, and her spirit could simply be denied. She was fast with needles and laughter.”

The 2025 Genesis Invitational took place on Thursday at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Deigo. Woods recently announced he will not be competing in the tournament as he continues to handle his mother’s death.

The par-four holes on the course represent a key moment in Woods’ storied career. In 2008 he won the US Open Championship on the seventh green. Woods defeated Rocco by breaking the tie on the seventh hole after an 18-hole competition.

Kurchida met Tiger’s Earl while in the Thai army. Kurcida and Earl tied the knot before moving to Brooklyn, New York. The couple later moved to Cypress, California, where Tiger was born. Earl Woods passed away in California in 2006.

According to ESPN, Tiger, whose real name is Eldrick, was named after his mother and father. The name Eldrick begins with E in honor of Earl and ends with K in honor of Kurchida.
