And while LeBron James is assumed to have fingerprints on many of the Lakers’ moves since he joined the team and many of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ moves during his second tenure in the franchise, he clearly never thought there would be a sale.

But according to ESPN, the team’s new star, Luka Doncic, did.

“When the Bass Family agreed to sell a majority stake in the franchise to mark Walter on June 18th, Doncic was given a heads-up and was especially congratulated on social media. He writes on the wall that James’ tenure with the Lakers could end. James chose the player option for the first time, but there is speculation that it is trading leverage.

ESPN’s story also reported that James and Anthony Davis told the Lakers to get a real center, but not until Doncic arrived – in exchange for Davis they didn’t.

James also has an inexplicable social media post earlier this month, including discussions about training at the Cavaliers complex. He also wore a hat that he said “welcome” while playing golf in Cleveland.

James’ agent Rich Paul recently said that James understands the Lakers are building towards the future, but James still prioritizes another title run.
