The roof of the family’s dollar store collapsed, killing a 68-year-old man.



KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Part of the roof and facade of a family dollar store in Kansas City, Missouri, collapsed Sunday, killing a 68-year-old man and seriously injured a 50-year-old woman, authorities said.

The Kansas City Fire Department said the partial collapse of the building occurred Sunday around 2:45pm. Local TV news reports show two other people were also injured outside the building, but were treated at the scene and refused further medical care.

These TV reports showed that the roof and part of the front, which appears to be the main entrance to the store, appearing to have brick, stone and wooden debris on the ground.

Fire Station Battalion Commander Mike Hopkins said the dead man might have been walking by the building at the time. The seriously injured woman remained hospitalized.

KMBC-TV reported Public inspection records say someone said Friday that the building was “slowly tilted.” Authorities had no explanation for the collapse yet.
