The twins trade 10 of the players who received the 26 roster
The 51-57 Minnesota Twins have been selling the fire for the past week, trading 10 of the team’s 26 roster players ahead of the 2025 MLB trade deadline scheduled for EDT at 6pm on July 31st.
Yesterday, Minnesota parted ways with three inning All-Star Carlos Correa, outfielder Harrison Bader, infielder Willia Castro and first bass man Thai France and four relief pitchers. Prior to that, pitcher Joan Duran was swapped for the Philadelphia Phillies and Chris Padak for the Detroit Tigers.
“It’s difficult, but I hope that not only is it on my heels, it’s all good and keeps my fingers crossed.” Team president Derek Falby told The Associated Press. “This is actually a way to invest in the future of your team, and hopefully short-term and long-term.”
The reorganization began on Monday, with starting pitcher Christapadic and AAA pitcher Randid Bnack sent to the Tigers in exchange for minor league catcher Enriquezimenes. Two days later, Closer Jhoan Duran was acquired by the Phillies for catcher Eduardo Tait and AAA starting pitcher Mick Abel.
“It’s painful and difficult to trade players who have been with us for a while, but we felt that we would add a lot of talent to the group and organization and continue to build the next great core of players who have come and contributed at the major league level.” Falvey told MLB.com. “In doing so, I think we felt we added players who added people who are not only great prospects but also part of the long-term future, but we actually got access to a lot of players trying to find a way to support this team right away.”
Action was featured yesterday ahead of the MLB trading deadline. Minnesota started by sending Harrison Bader to Philadelli for two prospects, pitcher Jeremy Villeria and outfielder Hendry Mendes. The twins then shipped bailiff Brock Stewart to the Los Angeles Dodgers for outfielder James Outman, before bailiff Danny Kowloombe went to the Texas Rangers for low-A pitcher Garrett Horn. One base player Thai France and reliever Louis Burland have been traded for AAA pitcher Kendry Rojas and AAA outfielder Alan Roden and the Toronto Blue Jays. The Cubs then acquired Willi Castro for AA starting pitchers Ryan Gallagher and Sam Armstrong. The twins then acquired starting pitcher Taj Bradley from the Tampa Bay Rays, bailing out Griffin Jacks. The biggest move of the day came when Minnesota traded Carlos Correa for Houston Astros and High A starting pitcher Matt Mikulski.
“This deadline with other teams who were in competitive positions to make some changes for this season has an opportunity for us,” Falby said. “But we monitored what this means for the ’26 and ’27. We were asked about the other players we chose not to engage in, part of next year and at the club the following year.”
Correa’s deal has been a shock for most people in major league baseball since signing a six-year, $200 million contract with the twins in 2023. Plus, he is not planning to become an unlimited free agent until 2033.
“When rumors came up about Houston over the past few days, he wanted to have a brief conversation about it, so I said my door is always open,” Falby said. “We had that discussion. We didn’t get into too many details about the private nature of that discussion, but Carlos didn’t demand trade or want to do anything else.
The rumors swirled it Pitcher Jo Ryan was scheduled to be sent to the Boston Red Sox.the transaction never happened. As a result, the twins were able to maintain both All-Stars.
“Historically, it’s pretty well established by trading team playoff cycles when there’s a known playoff cycle compared to the offseason, so to speak. “In many cases, we didn’t think we could have access to the same level of talent that we did this cycle for those guys.”
“We got a deal that we felt we had to say yes,” Falby continued.
The twins will face the Guardians who are in Cleveland today, looking to snap a two-game losing streak. That one first pitch is scheduled for the 7:10pm EDT.
