“The Wizard of Oz” exploded by AI for a huge sphere screen

Large Las Vegas venue It is known as Sphere. The first classic film, “The Wizard of Oz,” begins on August 28th, and is explained in detail. CBS Sunday Morning SegmentThis is not just a matter of filming an existing film and projecting it onto Sphere’s 160,000 square feet of wraparound LED screen.

Instead, Sphere Entertainment CEO James Dolan said the team of 2,000 people is creating new experiences. This includes using AI to increase the resolution of existing films and extending the footage beyond the frame of what was actually filmed.

For example, Ben Mankivich, presenter of Turner’s classic film, said through the use of AI, “Dorothy’s grainy close-ups become richly detailed, then through a process called magic, you can see the scratches, yellow brick paths, and the mountains of Oz.”

Otherwise, extending the frame means creating new performance from existing actors.

Despite these changes, Dolan said, “Our standard for this wasn’t to try and change the film at all, but to try to get you to the film, as if you were in the studio when you were filmed.”
