Tiktok wants Android users to sideload the app

The company announced on Friday xPost The Android app will be available for download directly at the website tiktok.com/download. This allows users to take advantage of the Android feature that allows users to download apps from outside the Google Play Store. Similar options are not yet available on non-EU iPhones.

Downloading Android apps is now available as an Android package kit. This is more commonly known as an APK file. This includes other resources that Tiktok needs to run.

By offering a standalone download, Tiktok can at least temporarily skirt the current App Store Ban. This still prevents both Google Play and Apple’s App Store from hosting apps while the ban is suspended.
