How to use NYT Strand Puzzles can be difficult. The words are all related to each other, and perhaps related to NCAA tournaments and baseball games, but not all words are easy to find. One of them was more slang than what I think was a real word, and it was difficult to unscramble. (Tip: Three championships are explained in a row by the same team.) If you need tips and answers, read on.

Word clues to unlock in-game hints

Your goal is to find hidden words that match the theme of the puzzle. If you’re stuck, find out what you can. Whenever you find three words of four or more letters, the strand reveals one of the theme words. These are the words I used to get some hints for them, but the words of four or more letters you found work:

  • Back, Back, Mace, Mac, Mac, Slat, Slate, Tape, Leg, Cry, Cry, Mock, Mock, Makeup, Cam, Game, Nap.

Today’s Strand Puzzle Answers

These are answers that are linked to the theme. The goal of the puzzle is to find everything that includes the Spangram, a theme word that reaches from one side of the puzzle to the other. When you have all of them (I originally thought there were always eight, but I learned that the numbers can vary), every letter on the board is used. Here is the answer to nonspangram:
