Tom Brady slaps Wayne Rooney and Birmingham players for “lack of commitment” during his relegation campaign

Birmingham City co-owner Tom Brady openly questioned former manager Wayne Rooney’s commitment, labeling the players from the 2023-24 team as “lazy and entitled” in a new documentary.

Following the acquisition of Knighthead Capital Management and Tom Wagner, NFL legend, who became a minority stakeholder at the club in August 2023, made comments on the Amazon Prime series released on Friday.

“I’m a little worried about the head coach (Rooney) work ethic,” Brady said in the film. “I mean, I don’t know, I don’t have a great instinct about it.”

Rooney was hired two months after the club changed ownership, but lasted just 83 days at work as Birmingham was relegated to League One at the end of that season.

Speaking after the drop, Brady added:

“They are lazy, they are rights, and when you are lazy and entitled, you don’t have much chance of success.

“I think there will be a lot of people this summer because we have to change all the people associated with losses.”

After relegation, Birmingham defeated League One Transfer Records and was hit by promotion on his first attempt, scoring 111 points.

Preparing for life in the Championship has already seen six permanent signatures, including former Premier League champion Demarai Gray and striker Kyogo Furuhashi.

Birmingham will hold its 2025-26 season at St. Andrews against Ipswichtown on August 8th.
