Tonight’s Live Results: Zayas Vs. Garcia and Carrington Vs. HEITA – From New York City

Xander Zayas’ defensive style combat will be tested tonight in a 12-round clash with pressure fighter Jorge Garcia for the vacant WBO junior middleweight title at Madison Square Garden Theater in New York City.

Garcia threatens Zayas’ undefeated record

Garcia (33-4, 26 Kos) presents a massive test of Zayas (21-0, 13 Kos) because he has talent, unlike the 21 fighters that Xander faced off by top-ranked promoters. Jorge Garcia isn’t near the top five 154-pounders in the division, but he’s far better than the opposing level Zayas faced off in his six-year professional career.

Main cards: Zayas, Carrington, Vargas

  • Xander Zayas vs. Jorge Garcia Perez
  • Bruce Carrington vs. Mateus Haita
  • Emiliano Vargas vs Alexander Espinoza

Top Rank Zayas Star Plan

Tonight’s event will be the last of ESPN’s top ranks. The company is ending its broadcasting contract. Interestingly, Top Rank chose Zaya to headline with Garcia rather than a more proven fighter with more interesting, crowd-pleasing style combat.

It suggests their desire to attack the Puerto Rican fighter Zaya at Stardom. They want him to be a huge star like the fighter planet of the island’s past. He is more problematic as he can’t punch and is a hit-and-run type fighter.

Carrington’s featherweight championship match

In the fight for Chief Support, Bruce Carrington (15-0, 9 KOS) fought against the vacant WBC interim featherweight title against #11 rank fringe contender Mateus hiata (14-0, 9 KOs) in the 12th round contest.

Hiata’s choice makes Carrington (28 years old) more likely to win compared to when he chose one of the top ranked candidates. This is a skilled matchmaking on their part, just as they do with Zaya, the headline fighter.

Carrington is a good basic slugger, but he’s already been exposed to Sulaiman Segawa last year. He was fortunate to beat Segawa, who was born in Uganda. Nevertheless, the fight showed a flaw in Carrington’s game, revealing that he is not a fighter who fans were led to believe.
