Trent Alexander Arnold’s injuries sparked speculation for Real Madrid, Slot says

Liverpool boss Arne Slot believes that Trent Alexander Arnold’s thorough injury has led him to resume whispers about his future.

Alexander Arnold has not played since suffering an ankle injury during a Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain on March 11.

During his absence in force, it was reported that he agreed to personal terms with Real Madrid prior to the free transfer switch to the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season.

Slot believes it is no coincidence that speculation gained traction when England International was on the sidelines.

He said: “His situation is that unfortunately he is injured. Otherwise people probably would have spoken about him that he has one or two great performances for the English team. But he is injured and he means that he is fully focused on his recovery.

Alexander-Arnold, along with Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk, is one of three key Liverpool players whose deal expired in June.

Slots have an incredible job focusing on the field, with Liverpool heading for tomorrow night’s Derby with Everton, who has at least a nine-point lead at the Premier League summit.

He said:

“For Virgil and MO, who are trying to win the Merseyside Derby, and for Trent, we are making sure he gets healthy as quickly as possible.

“It’s a situation that’s been there for eight months now and all three of these players are working so well under these circumstances that it doesn’t affect me at all.

“I think there was a bit of noise about losing and losing against Paris Saint German and Newcastle. I’m always trying to be reasonable. I was a little more frustrated with the (EFL Cup) final.

The nine finals coming in Liverpool

An international break has led Liverpool to reset after losing to PSG, and Slots said they are determined to finish the season strongly.

“We’re all looking forward to the nine upcoming games (in the Premier League),” he said. “In my opinion, the players look refreshed.

“But it wasn’t all negative. We played the Finals with a very good Newcastle team and a very good game, losing to Paris Saint-Germain.

“Now we have nine finals. These games are very important to us, starting with Everton, not only because it’s the Merseyside Derby, but because we’re in a very good position in the league.”
