USAID can cut staff to hundreds after most of it is on vacation
The proposal was that only 294 staff members on the “required” list were created by the US Department of Foreign Affairs (AFSA). It worked with another labor group, the United States Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), to file a lawsuit challenging the plan.
Like the president, the lawsuit targets the US Department of State, USAID, the Treasury, Secretary of State and Scott Bescent’s Treasury.
The lawsuit alleges that the president violates the US Constitution and federal law by attempting to dismantle the agency. “One of the defendant’s actions in dismantling the USAID was not taken in accordance with Congress’ approval.”
“And according to federal law, Congress is the only entity that could legally dismantle an agency.”
An independent acting director of USAID has been appointed, and the USAID building will be reopened to employees, the USAID website will be restored, grants and contracts will be restored, and staff will be informed of forced evacuation. I’m asking for it to be lifted.

Thousands of USAID workers are hoping to take administrative leave starting Friday night. A message posted on the agency’s website states that this applies to all direct employment officers from 23:59 EST (04:59 GMT).
