Vergil Ortiz Jr.
Vergil Ortiz Jr. chased Xander Zayas on social media today to win the vacant WBO junior middleweight title against Jorge Garcia last Saturday.
Zayas’s favours in rankings
Ortiz Jr. says that it is a “gift” for Zayas (22-0, 13 Kos) to get the opportunity to fight for the vacant WBO 154-LB belt and that he believes he has shown a favor. Vergil Jr. said the title was “”.I’m being held for someone else.” Meaning Xander.
Zayas’ bad luck #1 rank
- Slawa Spomer: Who is this guy?
- Damien Sosa: Another unclear fighter
- Patrick Teisheira: Journeyman
- Jorge Fortia: Another unknown
Perhaps these are wins based on WBO’s decision to give Xander Zayas a 154th ranking. How do you not consider it to be shown? Where is the quality of the 4 Fighter Group? Zayas would have had to beat people like Israil Madrimov and Erickson Lubin to get the number one ranking.
Fans thought it was strange that the flawed Jorge Garcia was promoted to second place in the WBO and placed ahead of perhaps much more talented Isler Madrimov, Erikson Rubin and Serhii Bohachuk in the rankings. They opposed that Garcia should be moved to #2, and given his weak resume, it felt as though Xander Zayas didn’t belong to the #1 location.
Vergil Jr. informed Zander that he is proving more than he has in his resume victory. He has not won a world title, but he is beaten better fighter than Zaya.
Ortiz Jr. claims superiority
“I definitely proved more than you. I beat a few fighters who became world champions,” Ortiz Jr. said.
It’s no surprise that Ortiz Jr. is frustrated to see Xander in perfect position as he is handed over to him on a silver platter. Given that Zayas was stacked in a #1 ranking with WBO and faced a weak opponent with a vacant 154 pound belt, why did he not succeed?
WBO could have ranked Madrimov or Rubin in #2. Instead, they chose Jorge Garcia. As for the fight itself, some fans felt that the umpire had taken a casual approach to Zayas’ constant retention. There must have been a point deduction.
Make all those excuses to your own brother, talk to me when you become a world champion. https://t.co/ibfn32tbct
