Veteran who defeated CNN in court fights to clarify the name

In January, Florida ju-degreements found that in 2021, CNN slandered young people by implying that they would illegally benefit when helping people flee Afghanistan during the Biden administration’s military withdrawal.
Since then, Young, who sued the Associated Press and sued the CNN trial for reports, has filed his latest lawsuit against US News & World Report. Dust-Up began in January when AP media reporter David Bauder wrote that “Young’s business helped smuggle people from Afghanistan” when covering the CNN trial. The Border report is at the heart of Young’s individual lawsuit against the Associated Press, with US News & World Report reissuing the popular news outlet practice, the story, before finally retracting.
Earlier this year, the ju judge discovered that CNN had slandered US Navy veteran Zachary Young. He is currently suing US News & World Report.
In a lawsuit filed Wednesday in Bay County, Florida, Fox News DigitalYoung’s attorney Daniel Rustig wrote that the withdrawal of US News & World Report was not “sufficient,” giving the outlet the opportunity to correct the mistakes before the lawsuit was filed.
“We have given us every opportunity to do the right thing. They had already issued a retraction to correct it by correcting obviously wrong things, correcting and acknowledging the meaning of smuggling, but it was not a sufficient retraction. It was not a complete retraction.
When a young person opposed the Associated Press, accusing him of smuggling people, US News & World Report removed the story’s pickup and choked “possible misunderstandings.”

“Retraction: US News & World Report removed an article previously available at this URL, published on January 17, 2025. This article was reported and written by the Associated Press (AP). Previously existing AP reports.
“The AP article reported that the ju judge found that CNN’s report about Young falsely implied that he was engaged in illegal activities,” the US News & World Report continued. “The AP article also stated that “Young’s business helped smuggle people from Afghanistan.” Young then contacted the news and opposed the term “smuggling.”
The retraction did not sit correctly with the young people.
“We weren’t rushing to the court – we were forced into their decision to hold them accountable and not tell the truth from the US news. The media is deeply responsible for the public. If they can’t trust them to acknowledge the meaning of the words and the damages they may cause, we will continue to be held liable for them in court. That’s the only way.
US News & World Report did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

In a court application, Young’s lawyer said it was “decisively wrong” to say Young smuggled someone, saying “human smuggling” was a felony under US law and the court ruled that he would not do anything illegal during Afghanistan’s evacuation efforts.
The AP has previously defended the report and did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the lawsuit against US News & World Report.
“The Associated Press was a de facto accurate report on the discovery of the Ju Court’s ruling in the favor of Zachary Young,” an AP spokesman said earlier.
Young seeks compensation and other damages and may attempt to amend the suit to include punitive damages at a later date.
