Video: Matt Henry records Zimbabwe’s New Zealand’s best test figures
Matt Henry I etched his name in New Zealand cricket history on Wednesday (July 30, 2025). He delivered career-defining spells to record the best test bowling figures by Zimbabwean Kiwi. The notable six of 39 high-speed bowlers at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo destroyed Zimbabwe’s batting lineup and pushed New Zealand into dominant position on the first day of the first Test of the two-match series.
Matt Henry’s record-breaking bowling performance against Zimbabwe
Matt Henryfamous for his accuracy and subtle movements from the seams, and did not waste time ripping Zimbabwe after they chose the bat. The hosts struggled from the start as Henry rejected both Brian Bennett and Ben Curran in the first four overs. His relentless pace and clever variations exploited the support provided by Bulawayo Pic.
Just before lunch, Henry attacked again and removed Nick Welch. Zimbabwe wobbled at 67 at 47. After the break he returned to Sikandar Raza with a well-guided security guard, and the lower ranks had no answer to his accuracy. He concluded the innings by filming the final two wickets at the Blitz, where he saw Zimbabwe bowled out for just 149 in two sessions.
Henry’s figures are six at age 39, and New Zealand’s bowlers have been at their highest in the Zimbabwe Test, with 41 people exceeding the Neil Wagner six for nine years. In the broader context of New Zealand’s battle with Zimbabwe, only 26 Chris Martin, outperforming Henry’s feat in 2005, are only six in Napier, but Henry’s mark controls the Black Cap roost that visits Zimbabwean soil.

Henry’s highlighted spell was highly supported by Seam Bowling partner Nathan Smith. The pair constantly questioned Zimbabwean batsmen. The Newball offense was complemented by a sharp field.
Zimbabwean captain Craig Irvine provided resistance and shattered 30 important runs, but found most of the support. Zimbabwe temporarily recovered the 54-run stand between Elvine and wicketkeeper Tafatswatziga, but Nathan Smith’s breakthrough is just before tears shattered hopes that tea will recover significantly.
