“View” women asks Gloria Gayner to reject label “feminist”
The “view” woman tried to understand why Gloria Gayner Her iconic song, “I Will Survive,” is a feminist anthem and doesn’t think about why she doesn’t label her as a feminist.
In a recent interview with UK outlet metroGaynor said one of the biggest misconceptions about her is that people think she is a feminist. Her 1978 mega hit wasn’t that feminist ballad, she said, but she’s the one that put the spotlight on trauma as she dealt with some of her own struggles a few years ago, including recent reverse surgery and the loss of her mother.
She added that she grew up with five siblings and “loves men.”
The “The View” host responded to Gayner’s surprising take during Tuesday’s “Hot Topics” discussion, trying to define the term “feminism.”

The table was almost unanimous to agree with the words. feminism It simply means equality between genders. After sharing her definition, co-host Sarah Haynes suggested that Gaynor is in fact a feminist.
“I think the feminist movement has changed over decades in terms of who the icon is, what the points and mission were,” Haynes said. “But in the end, feminism is equality for women to have the same opportunity, so I think she’s really deeply feminist.”
Haynes and her co-hosts continued to try to define a somewhat divisive term. The common misconception, Haynes said, is that “feminism means you hate men.”
“They don’t have to be a zero-sum issue,” she continued. “Having equality in women does nothing to men.”

“The problem is, you don’t hate men,” Joy Behar agreed. “What you hate is sexism and misogyny. That should be obvious to everyone, because men are feminists too.”

“I think most women believe in equal rights in empowering other women,” added Alyssa Farrr Griffin. “And I think it will be this kind of loaded terminology that people may interpret different ways.

Sunny Hostin said there shouldn’t be any bad implications associated with labels, he’s a feminist and is still okay to praise the opposite sex.

“I don’t know why equality is suddenly a bad thing,” Hostin pointed out. “I don’t know why diversity, inclusion and equality are so bad. The bottom line can help women with equal rights, black people with equal rights, people with equal rights, people with equal rights, people in the LGBTQ+ community have equal rights!”
In addition to encouraging victims of trauma to write “I Will Survive,” Gaynor has tied the song together in recent years. She returns to faith.
