Want a sustainable Android? Modular FairPhone 6 will be streamed

Sustainable Tech leader FairPhone unveiled its latest modular device at an event in Amsterdam on Thursday, presenting clear challenges to mainstream phone makers everywhere. The FairPhone 6 is a fully repairable Android phone and sometimes the company says it has the lowest carbon footprint ever.

FairPhone is an unparalleled phone manufacturer. FairPhone is not just another high-tech company that makes common Android smartphones, but a value-driven Dutch social enterprise that ethically sources materials and pays fair wage bonuses to workers across the supply chain, including factory conditions that protect against harmful chemicals and voices in workplace decisions. Fairphone owners also encourage them to replace parts rather than discarding their devices and upgrading them frequently.

This is technically the FairPhone 6, but the company hopes it is known only as the FairPhone. The idea is that there is no need to upgrade your phone to a next-generation device every few years. FairPhone promises support for 7 Android updates and software and repairable parts through 2033 on this device.

Previous phones on FairPhone – Fairphone 5 – Reviews recorded 7/10. But it also won 10/10 Decomposition Score From ifixit. ifixit is a leader who provides tools and knowledge to help people repair their electronic devices and is at the forefront of pushing Repair method from the right.

The FairPhone is completely modular, with interchangeable elements that make it easy to modify and more fun. You can replace the battery, screen, camera, ports and other components, snap through the rear cover and attach accessories such as carry cords and card holders.

The Lime Green switch on the side of the phone allows you to switch between the standard Android 15 interfaces. This completes a storage back monochrome “essential” interface that provides access to all expected Google Gemini AI features and core factions such as calls, messages, and web browsing.

Our biggest criticism of the FairPhone 5 was its poor battery life and camera performance. According to FairPhone, the new device packs a larger battery that can last 53 hours, along with the Ai-Enhanced 50 megapixel camera. We hope these are fulfilling their promises. This is important to truly prevent this phone in the future as the rest of the industry sticks to the annual upgrade cycle.

The internal chip is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7S Gen 3, which also offers the best Android phone chips on the market. Its performance also helps determine the lifespan of your phone.

The FairPhone 6 is available from Yourcoop and AO in the UK and from Murena in the US for £499 ($680).
