Washington Post columnist reportedly has stopped moving towards Bezos’ “free market”

Members of the Washington Post editorial board reportedly left the paper citing the “relentless promotion of free markets and individual freedoms” of leadership.

Following President Donald Trump’s reelection, post-owner and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has published an edited section of the paper It will change Of course, it urges David Shipley, the editor of Opinion at the time, to leave.

“We write every day to support and defend two pillars: personal freedom and the free market. Of course we also cover other topics, but the perspectives against those pillars will be published by others,” Bezos posted on X. February 2025.

This proved too much for liberal post-editorial committee member and columnist Eduardo Porter. Eduardo Porter said he no longer wrote for his thesis because he was “suitable for this ideological turn.”

In a letter allegedly written by Porter, he I said“Jeff Bezos and his new Opinion Head are drawing paths that I cannot follow, directed at the merciless promotion of free markets and individual freedom.

“In my view, this layering of dogma undermines critical thinking. I’m nervous about understanding what journalism, analysis and commentary is. It runs the risk of turning the post into something similar to the church, with strict constraints on thinking,” he added.

Porter appeared to believe that a new direction would turn the Washington Post into a “brochure” to “worship technical money at the pinnacle of American society.”

He also questioned Trump’s influence in these decisions.

“I don’t know how much this is driven by Bezos’ fear of what Donald Trump can do for his various business interests.

Fox News Digital I contacted Porter and the Washington Post for comments.

Reports of Porter leaving the post are fellow columnist Jonathan Cape Heartpreviously resigned from the editorial board, and reportedly accepted the acquisition to leave the paper nearly 20 years later.
