Werder Bremen’s sack coach Werner
Werder Bremen fired coach Ole Werner after telling the club he wouldn’t extend his contract.
The 37-year-old was on the contract until the end of the 2025-26 campaign, but has shown that he will not renew his deal beyond that point.
“In the future, I decided to let go of OLE because the position of head coach requires continuity and clarity,” said the Bremen managing director at Sport Clemens Fritz.
“We are really disappointed by this decision because we could easily imagine working with OLE in the long run.”
Werner, considered one of Germany’s leading young coaches, took over Bremen during his second division and promotion of managerial positions, then took over steady improvements in the Bundesliga. The team missed European qualifications slightly this season and finished in 8th place in the Bundesliga.

Werner took over as Bremen’s coach in November 2021 in unusual circumstances after his predecessor Markus Anfang resigned while facing investigations into the use of fake Covid-19 vaccine documents.
He said: βFor me, it was clear that after my contract ended, and four and a half years later, head coach changes would be needed to allow for further development.
“That’s why I made the decision next summer and notified the club’s management. I understand Welder’s decision from the club’s perspective. I had a great time in Bremen with my coaching team, great staff, great teams and club officials.”
