What are Apple’s email categories and how to turn them off on iPhone
Apple released it iOS 18.3 In January, that update brought some Bug fixes For iPhone. However, when Apple released iOS 18.2 in December, it brought some such Apple intelligence features Genmoji and Picture play area, iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max Or devices from iPhone 16 lineup. The update also introduced email categories on all iPhones.
“Email classification helps you sort messages and prioritize the most important messages,” Apple wrote in its iOS 18.2 release notes. However, if you don’t like how categories work in emails, don’t worry. You can undo the app before you undo it.

Here’s what you need to know about email categories and how to delete them so that the app looks like it did before the update:
What is an email category?
The email categories are similar to the categories you find in Gmail. The app filters emails into one of four categories: primary, transaction, update, and promotion.
Emails with receipts, and order and delivery information will fill in transaction categories and news, social and other subscription emails renewal. As you might imagine, emails containing special offers and deals will be sent to the promotion.
The main categories are a little more difficult to pin. Apple wrote in the app that the primary is for “most important messages.” I used an app that was redesigned since it was released in beta, and during that time my main categories were emails from my wife, customer service and even refund information. It’s a bit of a whole category.
Can I change the email category?
Most messages can do it, but not all. This is the way.
1. Tap Email.
2. Tap a tab (not the primary) at the top of a transaction, update, or email, then tap a message.
3. Tap the three dots (…) top right corner.
4. Tap Classification.
You can then manually classify messages from a specific sender into another category. Unfortunately, all messages from the sender will move to the new category.
Once, I ordered tickets for a show at a local theatre and emails were filtered to promotions. I emailed those tickets to the primary, but now all emails from this theater (including deals and sales) are moved to my primary category. It’s annoying that you can’t return that classification.
It is important to note that you can reclassify emails from promotion to deals and return to promotions without any issues. The only emails that cannot be reclassified are the primary emails.
How can I remove categories in email?
If you don’t like the email category, you can delete it so that the email appears before updating. This is the way.
1. Tap Email.
2. Tap the three dots (…) top right corner of the app.
3. Tap List View.
Now, when the email arrives in your inbox, it will be mailed from top to bottom.
