The Hotchkis & Wiley Large Cap Disciplined Value Fund said the following in its second quarter 2025 investor letter regarding Citigroup Inc. (NYSE:C).
“Citigroup Inc. (NYSE:C) is one of the largest banks in the US by total assets. The ability to invest in IT, compliance and risk has put pressure on margins and returns in recent years, obscuring the bank’s strong core franchises. With most of these investments now completed, we expect City’s costs to be reduced, and its margins and returns will be more consistent with the peers. Citigroup performed well in the quarter with improved profitability and improved aggressive sales leverage. C is highly underrated with normal expectations and considers it to be attractive even if they haven’t achieved their goals perfectly. ”
