Women’s Euro 2025: France 2-1 England

France passed England in the opening Euro 2025 clash and won a 2-1 victory in a match they watched drama, allowing goals and earning a late chance for the Lioness.

The goals from Marie Antoinet Katoto and Sandy Baltimore gave the hosts the advantages of the first half, when England couldn’t recover despite a lively second half fight and Keira Walsh’s goal.

The match began at a desperate pace as both sides seemed to be trying to impose themselves early. England were the first to intimidate, and Lauren James missed the target slightly in the opening minute after a neat setup from Alesia Russo.

A while later, when Russo found the net in the 16th minute, it seemed Lioness took the lead, but after Var Review confirmed that Beth Mead was offside in the buildup, her goal was left on choke.

France took advantage of the grace and gradually grew into the game, claiming control through the dynamic midfield duo of Grace Jeon-Francoa.

Their efforts paid off in the 36th minute when Delphine Cascarino led a furious counterattack and Catoto whipped on the cross to get home from close range, giving France a 1-0 lead.

After just three minutes, the French doubled the advantage. This time, the fastest response of the six-yard box was Baltimore.

The Lioness chased 2-0, getting frustrated and went on a break with what they had to do.

England introduced Ella Tone, Chloe Kelly and Niam Charles, responding with triple alternatives just before the time mark.

These changes added energy to the visitor’s attacks, and Lauren Hemp and Bethmead continued to cause problems with the flanks.

The tempo of the match remained high as both sides exchanged batting. Katoto and Geyoro both approached extending the French lead, but England keeper Hannah Hampton stripped off a string of saves.

On the other end, Ella Tone hastily blocked two shots after a dangerous cross from hemp. Grace Clinton tried his luck from afar, but missed his target.

England finally found a breakthrough in the 87th minute. Following a corner where France failed to clear, Keira Walsh rifled a shot of his right foot in the lower right corner, setting a tense finish.

The Lioness was stacked up in pressure at rest and launched waves after the waves of attack. Michelle Aggieman and Russo blocked the shot, but Clinton and Hemp both approached equality at the dying moment. However, France held to secure a victory despite having turned its back on the wall and finished the match.

As a result, it was a bitter pill to swallow for Sarina Wigman’s side. He showed many promises, but was eventually reverted to the first half in two moments.

Reality champions have the job they have to do what they have to do to make it from their group.

Wales 0-3 Netherlands

Wales fell to the clinical Dutch side, and the Dutch claimed a 3-0 victory thanks to goals from Vivienne Midema, Victoria Perova and Esmee Brug.

After a promising start from Wales, which forced several early corners, the Dutch first hit at first half stop time.

Miedema scored on a finish from outside the box, giving the Netherlands a 1-0 lead.

Visitors doubled their advantage in just three minutes in the second half, and Peroba fired low into the bottom corner, following a neat assist from Daniel Van de Donque, who had been putting his hands on all three goals.

Welsh goalkeeper Olivia Clark produced several strong saves during the match, including an effort to reject Jill Ruhrd and Lines Bierenstein.

However, she was unable to stop her third goal in the 57th minute. Brug attacked from close range after goalmouth scrambled from the corner.

Despite the defeat, Wales had their own opportunity. Gemma Evans was narrow and big, and Rachel Lowe and Josie Green saw the efforts thwarted by distance.

The injury largely disrupted Welsh’s rhythm late, with both Seri Holland and Olivia Clark being treated as well.
