Xabi Alonso claims Real Madrid will leave the Club World Cup as a “better team” despite PSG thrashing
Xabi Alonso is confident that Real Madrid improved as a team during the Club World Cup and claims they will learn from the humble 4-0 thrashing by Paris Saint-Germain last night.
Madrid was torn apart by the European champions in the semi-finals and raised three PSG goals 24 minutes later to help with a disastrous advocacy from the Spanish side.
Alonso’s side was told, called out, kicked out, and Alonso had a lot to contemplate before his first full season.

We’re leaving as a better team – Luis Enrique
The former Leverksen boss said: “It shows the margins that need to be improved rather than the outcome.
“This game is the end of this season. We’re leaving as a better team. It’s hard to explain. I’m sure it will help make the next season even better.
“This championship has told me a lot. I leave behind an idea of what we are doing and what we need to improve. It’s the last game of 2024-25.
Kylian Mbappé endured a disastrous first meeting with his former club with French captain and fellow star Vinicius Jr. due to criticism of not pursuing as PSG moved forward freely.
When asked about the pair, Alonso refused to elect anyone because of individual criticism.
He added: “I talk about teams. It can be good to see mistakes today, at certain times, as it helps you for the future. If you repeat the same mistake over and over, we are not intelligent.”
No title ❌ Just a heartbreak 💔

Alonso is calm
The Club World Cup was Alonso’s first mission with Madrid as coach, and he sought patience from the fans and the media.
“It was the first defeat,” he said. “But the bad news for me is that we lose more times. That’s what happens and you have to accept it. Tomorrow we’re starting the rest phase. Refresh your head. Don’t forget.
“We tried to build a team that would play as a unit. The Club World Cup was very interesting and tough. We’ve come this far. We’ve reached the penultimate stage.”
PSG will face Chelsea in the final on Sunday. Luis Enrique’s team will win the domestic double and Champions League, winning in New York over the weekend, solidifying its position as the best club side in the world.
