Zayas scores his performance “B+” after a title-lack title victory over Jorge Garcia
Xander Zayas says he gave him a “B+” after beating Jorge Garcia by a 12-round unanimous decision to win the open WBO junior middleweight title on Saturday night at New York City’s Madison Square Garden Theatre.
Xander Zayas self-grade: B+
Even though Zayas (22-0, 13 Kos) remained on the move and held frequently, he still hit many shots from Garcia (33-5, 26 Kos), making it impossible to rank his performance as a B+. While there’s no doubt that Xander deserves victory, he didn’t resemble the material of a world champion. The judges won 116-112, 118-110, and 119-109.
“I’ll give it a B+,” Xander Zayas said Post-war press conference When asked to evaluate his performance against Jorge Garcia. “I keep winning and bringing glory to Puerto Rico. Some of these guys can take punches.
The performance was low. Zayes moved too much to be rated as a B+ and held too much. He basically says he performed at an A-level, but that’s not what the fans say. Xander held and moved too much to make it a high B
“Overall, I’m going to keep getting better. My strength continues to get better. My techniques continue to improve,” Zayas said.
Zayas’ Unchanging Battle Style
It’s very doubtful that Zaya would do that. “Better” Because since he became a pro in 2019, he has fought the same style. He doesn’t get in the way to avoid hitting his running and hugs. That way of thinking remains the same. If he could change it, he would have ever had it.
Zayas’ lack of power prevents him as much as he dislikes him being hit. He can’t punch. It is observable whether a fighter will become a puncher by the time he is 22 years old. If you’re not at 22, you’ll never do that.
“I might sleep on this (WBO 154-lb title). This is my baby. I worked so hard for this. The hard work has finally paid off. I told everyone that I was made for this. This was my moment and we made it happen. I’m not the only one. My whole team has pushed me to the highest level and I was ready for what Jorge Garcia could bring tonight,” Zayas said.
Xander didn’t do much work. It was Zayas’ top rank promoter who put in the effort. They are those who piloted Xander and chose the beaten opposition.
Xander’s final five opponents
- Slawa Spomer
- Damien Sosa
- Patrick Teisheira
- Jorge Fortia
- Roberto Valenzuela JR
The decision was made to rank Jorge Garcia in #2, rather than the more terrifying Isreil Madrimov, Erikson Rubin, Serhii Bohachuk and Jaron Ennis. They ranked Garcia above those fighters. It’s a strange move and it’s hard to understand. If he chose Madrimov or boots in #2, Zayas would never have won the WBO title. He would have been wiped out.
