Austrian police are searching for suspected “shaman con man”


Austrian police have issued a European arrest warrant for a woman who believes she posed as a shaman who fraudulent victims from a large sum.

Police said they discovered more than 10 million euros (£8.3 million) of cash, jewelry and gold at the woman’s home in Medling near Vienna.

They said the suspect was a 44-year-old Austrian citizen. He was named Mariana M, and was called Amera.

Her 29-year-old son has been arrested and is being held in detention in the town of Wiener Neustadt.

Police say they believe Mariana M may have scam people in Austria, Germany and Switzerland.

Police said Mariana M told one victim “The relative was cursed and foresaw her death. In order to break this suspected curse, the accused said, ” “We asked for 730,000 euros for the cleansing ritual.”

They said the suspect cut off contact after the victim handed over the money to the accused in several installments. Another woman then informed the victim by phone that the “shaman” had fallen into a severe coma as a result of the ritual.

Franz Pop, director of the Lower Austrian police, said, “In a world where many people are looking for answers to the essential questions of life, the profiters claim to have supernatural powers themselves. has been established.”

“They are in emotional or financial distress and are exploiting the trust of victims who are seeking help and support,” he added.

Police appealed to the other victims to contact the Criminal Investigation Bureau, Lower State of Austria.
