Canelo and Munguia help out at training camp in San Diego
Canelo Alvarez and Jaime Munguia are currently training together in San Diego for their respective battles against William Skull and Bruno Sulas.
Salvador Rodriguez reports training for Canelo (62-2-2, 39 KOs) and Munguia. He posted a video of them during today’s training. WBA, WBC and WBO Super Middleweight Champion Canelo face the uncontroversial championship IBF Champion Skull (23-0, 9 KOs) held in Riyadh on May 3rd. Mungia will face a rematch with Sulas.
Ideal matchup
Canelo and Munguia would be better off changing their opponents. Munguia can fight Skull. Canelo could face an undefeated Sulas and revenge Munguia’s loss for him. That’s the ideal situation.
Last May, Canelo defeated Munguia in a unanimous decision in the 12th round, giving him the first career defeat before being knocked out in the sixth round in the second half of December 14th.
It’s too much for Canelo to use Munguia as Skull’s training partner. Because he is not on the same level in terms of power and offensive skills. Canelo has the firepower to stop the skull, unless he rides on his bike.
Skull is what Torki Al Sheikh wanted in the first battle of Canelo’s four fights against Riyadh season. Canelo was in negotiations for what would have been a huge battle with Jake Paul, but Turki signed him a deal.
He chose Skull as Canelo’s opponent and helped set up a “big battle” with Terrence Crawford. Crawford is unpopular and not a big PPV draw, so that fight will attract much fewer numbers than PPVs.
