Do you want to travel on Memorial Day weekend? Stay busy with this free hearing alternative I swear

Are you in the mountains of people there? I’m planning to travel this anniversary weekend? Whether it’s a long drive or a long flight, audiobooks are a great option to keep you occupying yourself, and there’s one app that lets you get everything you need for free.

Audiobooks are addictives that I picked up right after graduating from college and need to occupy my brain on my work or lunch break while I was commuting. I was pushed to try them after being extremely embarrassed that I was unable to make so many advances in the Lord of the Rings throughout my undergraduate education. In just a few months Audible MemberI worked through that fantasy Bible and came into the vision of new literature.

Audiobooks are not for everyone – some people told me it’s difficult to hold what they hear – but if audiobooks work for you, Libby is a great way to save money and access many interesting titles. With the lack of ease of use and price tags, I won’t blame you if you go back to work on Tuesday or you continue doing it.

What is Libby?

Formerly known as Overdrive, Libby App offers access to digital publications through Real Library Systems. I might be here to evangelize on audiobook offerings, but I also rent e-books, digital comics, and digital magazines.

All of that content is cost-free, but there may be something like a free lunch, but probably not something like an Efort lunch. Speaking of which, Libby asks for an actual library card to access anything, and some systems allow you to sign up for the card online, but in most places you will ultimately have to go to your local library to set up your card. You need to make sure it remains up to date. You ask me, the small price you pay for a near-unlimited supply of free books.

Where can I get Libby?

Libby is available from Apple App Store, Google Play Store and Amazon App Store. If you have a phone, tablet or laptop in your pocket or bag, you can get Libby. You can also access the service via a web browser libbyapp.com.

So, how does it work?

Once you have created a Libby account and entered your library card information, you will need to search for the required title and borrow it. If you’ve used Spotify, the Apple Music app, or other audiobook apps like Audible or Apple books, you’ll know what to expect from a Libby player. Elsewhere, you can read e-books on Libby or by exporting them to the Kindle app. (There’s no such luck for e-readers other than Amazon, I’m afraid.)

One of Libby’s main value propositions is the ability to add multiple library cards. Some library systems allow you to sign up for a card even if you don’t live locally. For example, as a New York State resident, I can access the New York City Public Library in Manhattan, Queens Public Library, Brooklyn Public Library, and local libraries to dramatically expand the catalogues I can pull. Dive into Google and see if your state’s library system offers something similar.

Is Libby having any drawbacks?

Libby connects you to a real library, so you need to work within the limits of library rentals. This means that each title has a limited number of “copies” that the library can lend at once, so if everything you’re looking for is reserved, you’ll have to put it on hold and wait for it to become available. If you borrow something, you can only access it for a certain period of time, usually for 2-3 weeks. Unless you have a mountain of free time, you might reconsider using Libby to check out endless jokes and Stephen King’s stands.

Also, compared to Audible or Apple books, you will find that Libby leaves behind what you need audio quality in your audiobook. Unlike Audible, there is no option to choose from high or low quality files. Certainly, it’s not a contract breaker for most people, but something that perfectionists should keep in mind.
