FA Cup to semi-automation offside at Premier League Stadium in the fifth round


For the first time in English domestic soccer, semi-automatic offside technology will be introduced in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

On Thursday, the Football Association announced that the technology will be rolled out into seven games held at the Premier League venue.

Premier League clubs had initially approved the use of technology for the 2024-25 season in April, but there were plans to roll out in October 2024.

However, its implementation was postponed, allowing for additional testing.

The FA stated: “After successful live operations at the Emirates FA Cup, the Premier League aims to implement the system later this season.

“Semi-automatic offside technology provides more efficient placement of virtual offside lines based on optical player tracking, creating virtual graphics to enhance the in-stadium and broadcast experiences, and enhance the supporter experience. Masu.

“Operating semi-automatic offside technology will not change the accuracy of decisions, but will increase process speed and efficiency.”

UEFA first adopted semi-automatic offside technology in the Champions League at the beginning of the 2022-2023 season.

In addition to this, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) will be introduced in all eight FA Cup five round fixtures, including the game at Championship Side Preston, where referees will provide in-stadium announcements.

The fifth match is scheduled to take place on the weekend of Saturday, March 1st.

Gian Tour Senal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham are all knocked out, while Manchester United, rivals Manchester City, Newcastle and Aston Villa all remain in the competition.
