Matthew Breitzke’s dream debut power brings South Africa to a decent sum
South Africa recorded a competitive total of 304/6 in the 50 overs, thanks to debutant Breetzke’s sensational 150. The young batter showed off an incredible calm and aggression, pinning the innings with elegant stroke plays combined with powerful blows.
Breetzke’s century was out of the 128 ball, but he shifted gears in the latter stage of the innings, shattering 11 Fours and five sixes, finishing with 150 deliveries. His partnership Wiaan Mulder (64) was particularly damaging for New Zealand as the duo added 131 runs to the fourth wicket. South Africa took advantage of the platform and set a challenging target by scoring 108 runs in the final 10 overs.
While South Africa controlled the bats, the efforts of New Zealand Fielding left them in the game. Santner’s Smith’s devastation was a turning point, breaking key partnerships and preventing South Africa from accelerating early in the innings.
