Sudan Civil War: Army advances as they try to recapture Khartoum

The RSF has been widely accused of killing and raping civilians in Khartoum, and plundering the homes of many residents who fled the city, causing the Army to be widely accused of many in areas that were recently recaptured. It is welcomed by the residents.

Reports of the Army’s advance were dismissed by the RSF as “lies and rumors.” They have made similar refusals prior to all retreats in recent weeks.

Analysts say the Army’s recent success is the result of enlisting more fighter jets and purchasing more weapons. Reclaiming the besieged Army headquarters was also a major boon earlier this month.

The expulsion of the paramilitary group’s army from the Wadmadani Central City in January was hampered by allegations of summary executions and arbitrary-minded retaliatory attacks against those recognized as RSF informants or collaborators.

This will undoubtedly cause fear among the Khartoum residents that the same fate awaits them.

“If you open social media and open all the murders, you have to worry if you do something wrong,” Mustafa told the BBC.

“Some of them led fighters to people’s homes. Others joined in and stole property, and terrified people – even women hugged women against their will.As a sexual slave, External). They did something terrifying.

“Are they afraid of what is to come? Of course?”

However, there is a tiny line between being sometimes seen as a collaborator and the reality of survival in war.

“I’m worried about my cousin,” says Amir, who lives in Omdurman, the twin city of Khartoum, across the Nile.

“He is not a collaborator or an informant. He often has to deal with these people (RSF) because he cares for his mother and children. He is slaughtered (by the military). Or will he be left alone?”

For now, all Mustafa and Amir can do is wait as the army approaches and Sudan’s future hands balance out.
