In a statement after the call, Putin said “a ceasefire with Ukraine is possible,” but “Russia and Ukraine must find a suitable compromise on both sides.”
The Kremlin then said Thursday that neither side had planned direct peace talks.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said “there is no specific agreement on the next meeting,” according to the Associated Press. “They haven’t agreed yet.”
