The Philadelphia Eagles win Super Bowl Lix
The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in the Super Bowl LIX, winning the franchise for the second time in the Lombardi Trophy. Previously, the Eagles won the Super Bowl LII in 2018 by beating the New England Patriots 41-33.
This was Philadelphia’s second Super Bowl victory in the final three attempts, making the franchise’s overall record 2-3 in the big game. It also serves as a revenge against Kansas City’s 38-35 victory in the 2023 Super Bowl LVII.
Philadelphia’s defense was amazing. The unit forced three sales, recorded a pick six and fired Patrick Mahomes six times.
Faced with fourth and second in the midfield on the opening drive of the game, Jalen Hurts completed a pass to wide receiver AJ Brown, but Brown was punished for offensive passing interference, so Philly was the ball I ended up breading it.
After the KC punt, Philadelphia’s second drive was extended thanks to a somewhat suspicious unnecessary roughness penalty against Chiefs’ defensive back-trent McDuffy. After a 27-yard pass to Wide Out Jahhandtson, the Eagles performed a 1-yard tash push to take a 7-0 lead. This marked Dotson’s first catch since the first quarter of the wildcard round.

Wide receiver Devonta Smith made massive plays in the third and eighth to keep the Philadelphia drive alive. Kansas City forced a third downstop, but an offside penalty negates it, and the Eagles ended the quarter 7-0 on Chiefs’ territory. They don’t capitalize as Jalen threw the pick.
The chiefs then punted again. KC started the game 0/3 on the third down with three punts.
A 22-yard reception by AJ Brown allowed the Eagles to kick a 48-yard field goal, putting them up 10-0 at 8:38 in the first half.
It was a disastrous start for Patrick Mahomes. Patrick Mahomes opened the 10-10 game for just 24 yards. He also threw an intercept at Eagles rookie cornerback Cooper Dejan. This returned 38 yards for a touchdown to lead Philadelphia 17-0. Dejean is the second NFL history to score a touchdown on his birthday in the title game.
Shortly after the Philadelphia punt, Mahomes was picked up for the second time, setting the Eagles to the KC’s 14-yard line. After two plays, AJ Brown reached the end zone on a 12-yard crossing route, making it 24-0 on the break. Philadelphia’s 24-point halftime lead was the second largest in Super Bowl history.
KC gave up the bag on consecutive plays in their first possession in the second half, leading to the Chiefs’ sixth punt. After giving up five bags in the previous two games, Kansas City surrendered five bags in the first 33 minutes of the Super Bowl LIX.
In the third quarter, Jalen Hurts began making things happen with his feet. He scored 30 yards on two runs and went all the way down to the KC Four yard line. The Chiefs put together the goal line stands and the Eagles’ field goal was 27-0.
Kansas City on the field’s own side did not convert its fourth attempt, allowing Philadelphia to regain possession of the ball with the Chiefs’ 46. Attacks Devonta Smith.

KC finally got on the board with a 24-yard touchdown pass to rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy. They were unable to convert a two-point try, so they could only cut Philadelphia’s lead to 34-6.
Another 40-yard Eagles drive concluded with a field goal, extending the lead to 37-6 with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game.
Patrick Mahomes’ third Super Bowl sales were fourth-quarter strip sack fumbles recovered by Philadelphia. It is Mahomes’ sixth sack and the three career-highs of Super Bowl MVP.
Philadelphia only managed to get six yards before Jake Elliott scored the game’s fourth field goal to advance 40-6. After missing eight field goals during the regular season, Elliott created all the field goals he attempted in the playoffs.
Kansas City recorded two touchdowns and two points conversions to finish the score 40-22.
This victory prevented the Eagles from becoming the first NFL franchise to win three straight Super Bowls. This is actually the second mark when Philadelphia stopped three-peating by another team. Coincidentally, the Eagles’ 2018 victory over the Patriots was caught between two New England Super Bowl Championships. If Philadelphia loses Super Bowl LII, the Patriots were three peats to the NFL first team after beating the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII.
Unfortunately for the Chiefs, they ended the campaign with a 17-3 record. KC only lost two games this season when Patrick Mahomes began. This is the 11th week of the Buffalo Bills and the Super Bowl LIX team.
